From the very same creators who brought you ‘Little Women‘ NOW in theaters across the nation, ‘Once I was a Beehive‘ is a unique and family-friendly film you’ll truly enjoy watching together! Now you can own it not only on Blu-Ray and DVD but on paperback or Kindle® as well!
Remember your first experience at summer camp?
Once I was a Beehive is a lively telling of a young woman’s roller coaster experience dealing with the loss of a loved one, her newly blended family and her first year at girls camp. It will truly leave your heart doing flip-flops! It brought back so many delightful memories of my own summer camp experiences. Those experiences helped me find an inner strength I didn’t even know I had. I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
You’ll laugh and cry, and laugh some more
My daughter and I were honored to view the pre-screening of this AMAZING film Once I Was a Beehive when it was first released in theaters. There are some hilarious scenes that will literally make you laugh until your side hurts! You can purchase your very own copy now on DVD and Blu-Ray too!
A family movie that is ACTUALLY family-friendly!
Have you ever been to a movie and came out thinking “Well that was a really good movie, but I wish they would’ve left out the language or that one overly sensual scene etc.” I’m pretty sure most of us parents have at one time or another, felt that squeamish feeling while watching a movie with our kids, hoping they didn’t notice the foul language or slightly over-the-top love scene in that ‘so-called family movie’ everyone raved about.
That is one of the reasons I really appreciated this movie, not only did it have a great storyline, but it was TRULY family friendly! Something I find it so hard to find in most movies made nowadays.
I was even more excited to watch it knowing that the director was none other than Maclain Nelson, best known for his role in Saratov Approach where he played a Mormon missionary who was kidnapped while on his mission in Russia. (EXCELLENT movie as well!)
We got to meet up with Maclain and his wife Clare Niederpruem who played in the movie as one of the older, more experienced girls in the girls camp group and just recently made her directing debut for ‘Little Women’ which is now in theaters!
Interviewing a member of the cast and the director of Once I was a Beehive
We were thrilled to have the opportunity to conduct this interview and it was my daughter Lizzy’s very FIRST interview too! Clare was super sweet and so fun to interview; we could’ve talked to her for hours! She really put Lizzy at ease right away, sensing she was a little bashful at first. Both Clare and Maclain were so great with her!
It was also exciting to meet the REAL Elder Probst. His true-life story of being kidnapped while on an LDS church mission in Russia was played by Maclain Nelson in Saratov Approach. He was at the premiere too! I had no idea he lived in Boise, Idaho where we were living at the time of this interview. Got a pretty funny video clip of them posing in front of the movie poster too; check it out here!
Every good movie has a great soundtrack and this one is no exception!
I absolutely LOVE the ‘Once I was a Beehive soundtrack‘ and I would even consider it ‘road-trip-worthy’ music! (I’m pretty picky about my music selection for road trips too!)
Here’s a sample for your listening pleasure of the soundtrack than make sure to watch the movie trailers below and purchase your copy today!

I did go to a Girl Scout summer camp. I remember my favorite part was my Mom sent me with a gift to open each day and it was exciting to wait and open each one when that day came.
I went to camp as a kid
Never did go to summer camp my grandparents had a cabin in maine went there every summer.
I went to girls camp every year. I’m trying to think of a favorite memory, I had a lot of them. We were taught self defense one year I was a laurel. I wish I could remember everything from it. It’s been too long. I’m grateful for that, because I had to use it a few weeks later and it saved me from a bad situation. Very valuable.
I only ever went to camp with my stake. One year our ward left Friday evening after testimony meeting because the leaders had a strong prompting to do so. It was one of those promptings that was followed and nobody ever really knew why to my knowledge. Although I think the prevailing theory was that the altitude was affecting one of the leader’s health negatively in such a way that her staying would have ended badly. We were all bummed. But not much happens on Saturday anyway, you just break camp and go home.
I went to a community center and I enjoyed swimming.
i went to summer camp every year when i was a kid. my favorite was the girl scouts camp.
I went to camp ONCE. It was for the Sunshine Girls (The Salvation Army’s version of Girl Scouts) and it was awesome and my first time away from home. We each got Rainbow Brite dolls at the end of camp.
I have not been to a camp.

I went to summer camp for a couple of summers. I loved that I learned to swim there as well learned to make lanyards.
Have many fond memories of Girls Camp. Where we went it was a rattle snake pit. Wading in the creek was so nice after hikes.
Yes, I did go to summer camp. I’m not sure how many, but at least two years. My favorite memory would probably be spending time with my cabinmates in the evening before bed. We would play games, tell stories, etc. So much fun!
Girls camp was always so much fun. We went to Camp Lomia in Pine, AZ. I really enjoyed our talent shows. I was also able to go with my daughter to cancel my lunch during her camp years. She thought it was cool that she stayed in the same cabin that I did when I was her age.
